CSL selects ICRON for simulation of barge operations.
CSL International Inc. specialises in the marine transportation and handling of dry-bulk cargo. With the largest fleet of self-unloading vessels in the world, the company serves clients in industries ranging from steel to agriculture.
Seeking to optimise the design for inshore barge operations, CSL turned to ICRON Technologies Singapore for expertise. Working with CSL, ICRON developed probabilistic modelling using “Monte Carlo” simulation to analyse the barge cycle system. The Monte Carlo simulation considers random sampling of probability distribution functions as model inputs, to produce up to thousands of possible outcomes. The results provide the probabilities of different outcomes occurring.
In this analysis, 5,000 transhipments were executed to generate possible outcomes and the distribution of these outcomes was reported. This allowed CSL to determine the critical operating parameters and identify potential bottlenecks.
