Supply chain executives view Integrated Business Planning (IBP) as their most challenging supply chain dynamic, according to the results of a survey released today by ICRON, a leading provider of Optimized Decision Making and Supply Chain Optimization software solutions. The survey – completed by over 100 supply chain executives at the 20th annual EMEA Supply Chain & Logistics Summit & Expo earlier this month in Amsterdam – showed that 60% of executives rank IBP as the most challenging supply chain dynamic, followed by Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP), which 27% view as the most challenging supply chain dynamic.
Three other types of planning – Logistics Planning, Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul (MRO) Planning, and Workforce Planning – were all ranked by less than 10% of respondents as their most challenging supply chain dynamic.
Alfred den Besten, ICRON’s Chief Marketing Officer, remarked: “ The results of the survey confirm what we have observed in our interactions with senior supply chain managers. They view Integrated Business Planning as a chief challenge and critical capability. Indeed, the integration of business data, planning, and decision making is becoming a top priority for a growing number of supply chain executives.”
The survey also revealed that supply chain executives view Profit Margins as their most challenging market dynamic. Profits Margins was ranked as the most challenging market dynamic by 36% of respondents, followed by Time to Market with 27%, and then Customization, Globalization, and Order Fulfillment.
“ Unsurprisingly, the survey showed that profit margins are of the utmost importance to supply chain executives – in their position, they are always watching the bottom line,” den Besten added, “ Time to market is also primary concern, as the speed in which companies can bring new products or product versions to the market is a crucial element of success in today’s demand-driven, omni-channel supply chain world.”
