Nearly 70% of automotive executives say that supply chain volatility is their biggest source of business pain, ICRON survey shows

Istanbul, 16 October 2018 ICRON, a leading provider of Optimized Decision Making and Supply Chain Optimization software solutions, today released the results of a new survey, which found that 68% of automotive executives think that supply chain volatility is their biggest source of business pain.

The results of the survey – which was completed by 150 automotive executives at the 5th annual World Automotive Conference in Istanbul earlier this month – also revealed that 56% of respondents admit that they do not have an end-to-end view of their business, while 68% said that their company does not have the right technologies to support an effective S&OP (sales & operations planning) process.

When asked which trend in the automotive industry would have the most impact on their company’s strategy and operations in the next five years, 39% of respondents said “availability, integration, and interpretation of data”, while 27% said “self-driving cars”, 23% said “overhauling the purchasing process from dealers to buying online”, and 11% said “hybrid and electric cars”.

The survey also showed that 97% of automotive executives think that being able to make optimized decisions could significantly increase the competitive strength of their company.

The results of our survey provided deep and interesting insights into the main supply chain challenges that automotive executives today face and the critical capabilities that they need to overcome these challenges. For the majority of automotive executives, volatility is the number one pain point, while end-to-end visibility and effective S&OP are capabilities that they are lacking. Also, the ability to access and utilize data and make optimized decisions are viewed as very important,” commented Alfred den Besten, ICRON’s Chief Marketing Officer.

So, if you put all these insights together, I think that the overall story here is that in order to manage supply chain volatility and enable end-to-end visibility and effective S&OP, automotive companies need to be able to use their data to make optimized decisions. And this, actually, is precisely what ICRON helps them to do,” den Besten added.
