ICRON survey uncovers automotive executives’ most significant supply chain challenges

ICRON survey uncovers automotive executives’ most significant supply chain challenges

Istanbul,  31 October 2018 Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) and Integrated Planning & Optimization are seen by automotive executives as their most challenging supply chain dynamics, according to the results of a survey released today by ICRON, a leading provider of Optimized Decision Making and Supply Chain Optimization software solutions.

The survey – completed by 150 automotive executives at the 5th annual World Automotive Conference in Istanbul earlier this month – revealed that 38% of automotive executives see Integrated Planning & Optimization (which encompasses Capacity Planning, Network Planning, Detailed Scheduling, and Order Promising) as their most challenging supply chain dynamic, while 38% rank S&OP (which encompasses Demand Planning, Financial & Budget Planning, Supply Planning, and Inventory Planning) as their most challenging supply chain dynamic.

Logistics Planning, Workforce Planning, and Maintenance Repair & Overhaul (MRO) Planning, were ranked by 11%, 9%, and 5% of respondents, respectively, as their most challenging supply chain dynamics.

When asked to identify their most important supply chain optimization challenges, 27% of respondents selected “coping with unexpected events”, while 25% chose “having the right data available at the right times”, followed by “access to customer data” with 19%, “predicting market trends and behavior” with 18%, and “access to supplier data” with 11%.

The results of our survey echo what we have heard in our discussions with senior automotive executives. The bottom line is that, when it comes to planning, S&OP and Integrated Planning & Optimization are two areas that present immense challenges for automotive companies, while developing supply chain agility and access to real-time data are two operational areas in which they are looking to improve,” commented Alfred den Besten, ICRON’s Chief Marketing Officer.

Given the volatility of demand in the automotive market and the complexity of the industry landscape, automotive companies require an algorithm-based planning and decision making solution to overcome their supply chain challenges and remain on the road to profitability. ICRON provides such a solution, and numerous major automotive companies today are using our software platform to drive efficiency and revenues to the highest levels,” den Besten added.
